Destruction of Russian Buk-M3 Reload Vehicle
Ukrainian forces used drones to destroy a Russian transport-loading vehicle for the Buk-M3 anti-aircraft missile system for the first time, with the vehicle completely destroyed while carrying anti-aircraft guided missiles. [1] The Ukrainian military have used drones to destroy a Russian transport-loading vehicle for the Buk-M3 anti-aircraft missile system. [1] The Third Separate Assault Brigade reported the strike. [1] The brigade said the drones attacked a vehicle that was intended to reload the Buk T9243M. [1] The strike was carried out by attack drone operators from the SkyFOM platoon in the area of responsibility of the 3rd Army Corps. [1] The vehicle was destroyed as it was transporting a batch of anti-aircraft guided missiles to reload the Buk-M3. [1] This is the only confirmed destruction of equipment of this modification. [1] The brigade did not specify the type of drones used for the strike, but the video of the attack shows Hornet drones being launched. [1] In the footage posted by the unit, the reload vehicle was completely destroyed. [1] The Buk-M3 anti-aircraft missile system was adopted by the Russians in 2016. [1] It is capable of hitting fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, cruise and ballistic missiles and drones at a distance of up to 80 km and an altitude of up to 35,000 metres. [1] One Buk-M3 system is estimated to cost US$40-50 million. [1]

Black Sea Drone Attacks on Civilian Ships
Separate drone attacks in the Black Sea within Bulgaria's exclusive economic zone sank one civilian cargo ship with its crew missing and damaged a second grain-carrying vessel, injuring two of its 18 crew members who were rescued. [4] A civilian cargo ship has sunk and its crew is missing after being attacked by drones in the Black Sea, Bulgarian officials say. [4] A second vessel carrying grain was also hit within Bulgaria's exclusive economic zone. [4] Its 18 crew were rescued. [4] Air and sea drones were involved in the attacks at about 03:00, some 70 miles off the coastal town of Byala in eastern Bulgaria. [4] The sunken ship was flying under the flag of Togo. [4] Named the Alfa Watan, it was a Turkish-owned general cargo ship and was reportedly heading for Sulina, Romania. [4] A Bulgarian vessel was close by, but when they arrived all they saw was an overturned boat and rafts as well as life jackets. [4] A search operation has been launched. [4] Bulgarian sailors had rescued the crew members from the second ship, including two who were injured in a fire on board. [4] Eleven were Turkish and seven Indian nationals. [4] That ship, the Able, was flying the flag of Palau and transporting grain. [4] Its last reported position was five nautical miles from the Alfa Watan. [4] The ship that sank was Togolese-flagged. [5] The second ship, registered in Palau, was set alight by the drone but its Turkish and Indian crew members have been rescued. [5] A boat that rushed to the scene discovered overturned life rafts and life jackets near the ship that sank, but no members of the crew have been found. [5] Two merchant vessels were attacked by sea and air drones. [5] This has been formally confirmed by the crews, and both ships were hit. [5] According to the available information, one vessel was carrying wheat and heading south, while the other which sank was sailing north. [5] Its cargo is unknown. [5]

Broader Context of Black Sea Incidents
The Black Sea incidents involved both air and sea drones and occurred amid Russia's intensified strikes in the region as part of its war against Ukraine, which began in February 2022. [4] Radev did not say who was behind the attacks, which come as Russia intensifies strikes in the Black Sea, particularly the eastern side, as part of its war against Ukraine. [4] Moscow has not commented on the latest incident, a day after it was accused by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of striking a civilian vessel carrying corn. [4] A separate attack on Tuesday, near Odesa, saw a crew member killed and seven more injured. [4] The ship was flying the flag of the Marshall Islands. [4] On Sunday, Russia's defence ministry said it would intensify its strikes across Ukraine in response to comments made by Zelensky earlier last week, in which he said Kyiv would ramp up its attacks on Russian oil refineries. [4] Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. [4] The dual strike came a day after another ship caught fire and sank off the Romanian coast, killing one and leaving one missing, in what Ukraine said was a drone attack launched by Russia. [5] Black Sea shipping has been hit by growing fallout from the Ukraine-Russia war in recent months. [5] The situation significantly complicates navigation in the Black Sea, drives up insurance premiums, and makes maritime traffic extremely difficult. [5] Turkey's Chamber of Maritime Commerce said last month that since the start of the war, 226 civilian and commercial vessels have been attacked in the Black Sea, the vast majority this year. [5] The war in Ukraine that Russia started in February 2022 has spread to the eastern Black Sea in recent months. [5]
Official Reactions and Concerns
Radev condemned the strikes as a flagrant violation of maritime law. [4] Such an attack within the Bulgarian exclusive economic zone is absolutely unacceptable. [4] He told reporters that if this war is not halted in time, it will continue to expand its geographical reach and increase risks, including the risk of a global conflict. [4] European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the attacks were unacceptable. [4] The situation in the Black Sea is increasingly concerning. [4] Commercial ships and innocent crews are being targeted, with lives already lost at sea. [4] While exact circumstances of these incidents are still being established, the developments are very concerning. [4] Attacks on civilian shipping are unacceptable. [4] Radev said the attack constitutes a flagrant violation of maritime law and, more broadly, of the rules of navigation. [5] Such an attack within Bulgaria's exclusive economic zone is absolutely unacceptable. [5] European Union chief Ursula von der Leyen said Tuesday that attacks on civilian shipping in the Black Sea were unacceptable. [5] While exact circumstances of these incidents are still being established, the developments are very concerning. [5] The government said it would convene an emergency meeting on Tuesday to discuss the strikes. [5]
What to watch next: Bulgarian authorities continue a major search for the missing crew of the sunken ship while monitoring further risks to navigation in the Black Sea amid ongoing intensified strikes tied to the war that began in February 2022.
