Ukraine Strikes Kill Eight as Russia Launches 358 Missiles and Drones
Ukraine strikes killed at least eight people including three children during a massive combined missile and drone attack on the night of July 29-30. [2] Russia fired 74 missiles and 284 drones, with Ukrainian air defenses intercepting 320 of the 358 aerial assets. [4]
Scale of the Russian Assault
Russia carried out a large-scale combined attack on Ukraine on the night of 29-30 July using attack drones as well as air-, land- and sea-launched missiles of various types. [4] Ukrainian air defence downed 320 out of the 358 aerial assets launched by the Russians. [4] The Air Force's air surveillance troops detected 358 aerial assets in total, consisting of 74 missiles and 284 drones of various types. [4] These included 4 Zircon/Oniks anti-ship missiles launched from Russia's Kursk Oblast, 9 Iskander-M/S-400/KN-23 ballistic missiles launched from Russia's Bryansk, Voronezh and Kursk oblasts, 61 Kh-101/Kalibr cruise missiles launched from Russia's Vologda Oblast and Novorossiysk, and 284 Shahed attack drones including jet-powered models along with Gerbera, Italmas and Parodiya decoy drones launched from Bryansk, Kursk, Oryl and Shatalovo in Russia. [4] The main focus of the Russian attack was Kyiv and Lviv oblasts, while Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Vinnytsia, Poltava, Mykolaiv and Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts were also targeted. [4] A distinctive feature of this large-scale attack was the simultaneous use of different types of aerial assets from multiple directions, including a large number of ballistic and cruise missiles. [4] Early reports indicate that Ukrainian air defence shot down or jammed 320 assets including 55 missiles and 265 drones of various types, specifically 1 Iskander-M/S-400/KN-23 ballistic missile, 54 Kh-101/Kalibr cruise missiles and 265 drones of various types. [4] As of now three anti-ship missiles, six ballistic missiles, two cruise missiles and 17 attack drones have struck 20 locations, with debris from intercepted assets falling at 13 locations. [4] The status of eight missiles is still being confirmed, and the Air Force warned that the attack is still ongoing. [4]
Civilian Casualties and Damage

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said five adults and three children have been killed as a result of the latest Russian attack on Ukraine on the night of 29-30 July. [2] So far eight people have been reported killed across the country, with dozens of people injured and everyone receiving the necessary medical care. [2] Six people including three children were killed in the suburbs of Kryvyi Rih in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast after a Russian missile struck a residential building in the village of Radushne. [2] One person has been killed in Poltava Oblast, a 31-year-old man has been killed in Kyiv, 30 people have been injured in Lviv including three children, and five people have been injured in Kyiv Oblast. [2] Russian forces have targeted Kyiv and the surrounding region as well as Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Poltava, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy and Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts. [2] In these regions dozens of ordinary homes, civilian businesses and infrastructure facilities have been destroyed or damaged. [2] The aftermath of the Russian strike on a house in the village of Radushne in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast left parents and three children dead, with two more children pulled alive from under the rubble after an ordinary home was blown into smithereens by a ballistic missile. Incursion into Polish Airspace
Air raid sirens blared in Poland's eastern Lublin region, F-16 fighter jets were scrambled, and an explosion was reported overnight on July 30 after an unidentified object strayed into Polish territory amid a larger Russian mass attack on Ukraine. [1] At 3:40 a.m. local time the Polish military's operational command reported an unidentified object was detected in Polish airspace while at least a dozen missiles were operating over western Ukraine. [1] A Polish F-16 jet was deployed to identify and intercept the object, but six minutes later the radar signal had disappeared. [1] Later a helicopter crew located the impact site in an undeveloped area near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia in Lublin Voivodeship. [1] Images soon emerged on local media of a hole in a field. [1] Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is traveling to the site of the hole. [1] Tarnawa-Kolonia is located around 90 kilometers from the Polish border and 150 kilometers northwest of Lviv where at least 31 people were injured including three children after a Russian missile struck a residential building. [1] The type of object that fell in the vicinity of the town of Tarnawa-Kolonia is being clarified, according to Polish defense minister Wladyslav Kosiniak-Kamysz. [1] People in Poland's Lublin Voivodeship reported hearing explosions during Russia's latest attack on Ukraine on the night of 29-30 July, and a crater was discovered in a field. [5] Firefighters and law enforcement officers have been dispatched to the scene. [5] An early warning system had been activated overnight in Lublin and across the Lublin Voivodeship with air-raid warnings issued. [5] Firefighters are securing the area around the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia near Lublin where an unidentified object is believed to have fallen. [5] Emergency services received reports from several nearby settlements with people reporting explosions and loud noises in the sky. [5] People in the village of Targowiska heard an extremely loud explosion with windows shaking in some homes. [5] A military helicopter later appeared over the site and numerous fire service units and police officers were also deployed. [5] Because of the difficult terrain emergency services began searching the area using quad bikes and discovered a crater in a field located between forested areas. [5] Police cordoned off the site and are awaiting the arrival of military personnel who are expected to examine the area thoroughly and determine what caused the crater. [5] Nearby roads have been closed and access to the area has been restricted. [5]
Zelenskyy's Response on Air Defense Shortages
Zelenskyy noted Ukraine is suffering from a critical shortage of air defence missiles. [2] More than 70 missiles were used in this strike with a significant number of them ballistic, and there were also over 280 attack drones. [2] More than 260 drones were intercepted, with Ukrainian combat aviation shooting down a significant number of cruise missiles and even mobile fire teams managing to take on cruise missiles. [2] Given the critical shortage of air defence missiles from partners, Ukrainian warriors are accomplishing truly incredible things and demonstrating a very high level of professionalism. [2] Protecting Ukraine from Russia's missile threat is the most important task in saving people's lives, and this is not a task that can be left to Ukraine alone or to any one country alone. [2] All partners know how and with what they can help, and untimely assistance and delays in the delivery of anti-ballistic missiles lead to this kind of destruction and these kinds of casualties. Context of Prior Border Incidents
The reported incursion is not the first time Russian mass attacks on Ukraine have tested Polish air defenses. [1] On Dec. 29, 2023, a missile entered Polish airspace putting the country's defenses on high alert. [1] In another incident on Nov. 15, 2022, a missile flew onto Polish territory during a Russian mass strike killing two civilians, though Polish investigators later concluded that it was a stray Ukrainian anti-air projectile launched to intercept the Russian attack. [1] In what was understood to be a deliberate provocation and test of NATO's response, 19 Russian drones entered Polish airspace in September 2025 triggering consultations under Article 4 of the Atlantic Treaty.
