Ukraine Strikes Kill Eight and Injure 43 as Country Marks Independence Day
Russian strikes across Ukraine on 24 August, as the country marked its Independence Day, killed at least eight people and injured at least 43 others, with multiple locations reporting civilian casualties including children. Ukraine strikes targeted several regions overnight and during the day, according to local authorities.

Russian attacks killed at least eight people and injured at least 43 across Ukraine over the past day. Russia launched two Oniks anti-ship missiles, six Kh-31P and Kh-59 guided air-launched missiles, as well as 143 drones overnight on Aug. 24, according to Ukraine's Air Force. Air defenses downed one Oniks missile, two Kh-31P and Kh-59 missiles, two Banderol munitions, and 109 drones. Strikes were recorded at 22 locations, while debris from intercepted drones and missiles fell at five locations. [3]
Casualties and Damage in Kherson Oblast
A 76-year-old woman was killed in the village of Shyroka Balka and eight people, including a child, were injured when the Russians attacked Kherson Oblast with artillery and drones on 24 August. Russian terrorists have killed yet another woman in Kherson Oblast. This morning, the invaders attacked Shyroka Balka in the Stanislav hromada. A 76-year-old woman sustained fatal injuries in the Russian attack. Later in the day, a Russian UAV hit an apartment in a high-rise building in Kherson's Tsentralnyi district, destroying a balcony, shattering windows and damaging walls and rooms inside the flat. A 63-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman have been injured in the strike. They were diagnosed as suffering from blast injuries, closed traumatic brain injuries and concussion. Those injured are currently receiving medical treatment. In addition, Kherson Oblast Prosecutor's Office reported that Russian forces had dropped explosives from a drone at around 12:40, injuring a child. An 11-year-old boy, who was inside a house during the strike, has been taken to hospital. The emergency service reported that a warehouse building caught fire in Kherson after being hit by Russian UAVs. The ensuing large fire has since been extinguished. Kherson Oblast Prosecutor's Office later added that as of 17:30, eight people are known to have been injured as a result of the Russian attacks on Kherson Oblast on 24 August. Russian forces attacked settlements in Kherson Oblast using artillery and various types of unmanned aerial vehicles on 24 August. Three adult civilians and an 11-year-old boy have been injured in Kherson as a result of enemy drone attacks today. Three people have also been injured as a result of artillery strikes on the village of Komyshany, and one person has been hurt in Bilozerka. [2]

Airstrikes on Sloviansk in Donetsk Oblast
Seven people, including a 16-year-old boy, were injured in Russian airstrikes on Sloviansk in Donetsk Oblast on 24 August. At present, seven people are known to have been injured as a result of the airstrikes carried out by Russia on Sloviansk on 24 August. One of them is a 16-year-old boy. All those injured received medical treatment. One woman was hospitalised, while the other people are receiving outpatient treatment. On 20 August, Russian forces struck the cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk in Donetsk Oblast, injuring at least 10 people. [1]
Impacts in Kharkiv Oblast
In Kharkiv Oblast, Russian drones struck railway infrastructure in the Lozova community overnight, killing two women and injuring six other people, including an 11-year-old girl. The girl, whose mother was among those killed, was in serious condition with burns, while five other people suffered blast injuries. Russian attacks killed five people and injured 17 others, including two children, in Kharkiv and 16 other settlements across the oblast over the past day. [3]

Attacks in Other Oblasts
In Donetsk Oblast, Russian attacks killed two people and injured one in Kramatorsk, while six others were wounded elsewhere in the region over the past day. In Sumy Oblast, one person was killed and 12 others injured in Russian attacks. Russian forces carried out more than 50 attacks against 25 settlements in the region. In Zaporizhzhia Oblast, three people were injured in attacks on Zaporizhzhia and the surrounding district. Russian forces carried out 518 strikes against 38 settlements across the oblast over the past day. In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, three people were injured as Russian forces attacked three districts nearly 30 times using drones, artillery, and a guided aerial bomb. In Chernihiv Oblast, a 59-year-old gas station employee was injured after a Russian Geran drone struck a facility in Korop. [3]
