A new Russian fiber-optic drone called KVN uses microphones for acoustic detection and operates in radio silence to evade Ukrainian electronic warfare. [2] The drone, known as “Knez Vandal Novgorodski” (KVN), waits in ambush using only an external microphone as its tracking tool. [2] Military expert Jurij Knutov stated that the presence of the optical cable allows the drone to avoid jamming by electronic warfare systems. [2] The integration of sensitive microphones turns the drone into an ideal listener capable of detecting engine sounds from a considerable distance.
