Indonesia Condemns West Bank Violence as UN Warns of Worsening Settler Attacks

Multiple violent conflicts continue across several countries, with fresh incidents reported in Indonesia's condemnation of West Bank violence, a deadly bandit attack in Nigeria's Kebbi State, clashes in Ghana's Wechiau, and ongoing DDR and humanitarian efforts in the Central African Republic and Yemen.

Indonesia Condemns West Bank Violence

Indonesia has condemned escalating violence in the occupied West Bank, calling for an immediate end to hostilities and urging all parties to comply with international law. [2] Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang stated on Thursday that Indonesia’s position remains consistent in condemning the violence occurring in the West Bank. [2] Indonesia urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint, respect existing ceasefire agreements and prioritize diplomacy to prevent further regional destabilization. [2] The call came amid growing international concern over worsening conditions in the West Bank and wider region. [2] On July 29, the UN Human Rights Office warned that conditions were deteriorating because of Israeli settler violence and land annexation. [2] UN Human Rights Office spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani said settler violence and the expansion of annexation of Palestinian territory in the West Bank are worsening. [2] The UN expressed concern over Israeli government announcements regarding plans to expand settlements and outposts. [2] It also cited rhetoric by Israeli leaders calling for revenge and collective punishment against Palestinian communities, including threats to turn the West Bank into another Gaza. [2] Tensions in the West Bank have worsened in recent weeks, with frequent attacks targeting Palestinian residents and property. [2] International rights groups, along with Palestinian and Israeli organizations, have alleged that Israeli forces protected settlers and, in some cases, participated alongside them during incursions. [2] Military operations and settler attacks across the West Bank have escalated sharply since the Gaza war began in October 2023. [2] According to Palestinian officials, the violence has killed more than 1,182 Palestinians, wounded about 13,000 and led to the detention of nearly 24,000 people. [2]

Bandit Attack Kills Four in Nigeria's Kebbi State

Four people were killed, while a soldier was declared missing following a bandit attack on the Tudun Bicci community in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. [3] The Chairman of Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, Hussaini Aliyu Bena, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with newsmen on Thursday. [3] The attack occurred when armed bandits invaded farmlands in the area, prompting a gun battle with security personnel and local forest guards. [3] The fatalities comprised two forest guards and two civilians. [3] Several bandits were also neutralised during the exchange of gunfire, while others escaped with gunshot injuries. [3] Many of the bandits were killed during the encounter, while others fled into the forest with gunshot wounds. [3] The Kebbi State Government, in collaboration with security agencies and the local government, had intensified efforts to curb the recurring attacks and kidnappings in the area. [3] Bena attributed the persistent insecurity in Danko/Wasagu to the presence of bandit enclaves in neighbouring Zamfara and Niger states. [3] The security challenges faced are largely due to the existence of bandits’ camps in neighbouring Zamfara and Niger states, from where these criminals launch attacks. [3] Danko/Wasagu is one of the worst-hit local government areas in Kebbi State, sharing boundaries with parts of Zamfara and Niger states where armed bandit groups maintain hideouts in vast forest belts. [3] The area has witnessed repeated attacks on farming communities, kidnappings for ransom, cattle rustling, and deadly ambushes on security personnel in recent years. [3] The latest incident comes just days after the abduction of a Kebbi State High Court judge, Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, by suspected bandits. [3] Governor Nasir Idris recently convened a high-level security meeting involving heads of security agencies, local government chairmen, traditional rulers, and vigilante groups to strengthen the state’s security architecture and coordinate efforts to tackle banditry and other violent crimes. Bystander Shot in Ghana Communal Clashes

A 24-year-old bystander has sustained a severe gunshot injury to his right thigh during renewed clashes between civilians and police in Wechiau in the Wa West District. [5] The latest victim, Babuule Wahidu, was allegedly hit by a stray bullet while attempting to conduct a mobile money transaction. [5] Dr Philip K.K. Baabiineh, a trauma and orthopaedic surgeon at the Upper West Regional Hospital, said Mr Wahidu was rushed to the facility in critical condition and required urgent surgery. [5] Mr Wahidu alleged that he was at a mobile money vendor to do a cash out, saw people running, turned to run, and then a bullet entered his leg. [5] Medical staff stabilised Mr Wahidu before performing surgery to treat the injury. [5] The victim suffered a penetrating injury consistent with a gunshot wound on the outer side of his right thigh. [5] The bones were intact, so staff explored the wound, removed the foreign body, debrided, and performed the necessary procedures. [5] Mr Wahidu is currently recovering at the hospital and is receiving antibiotics, with doctors hopeful that he could be discharged within a week. [5] A second victim who sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder during the clashes is also reported to be in stable condition and is being managed without surgery. [5] The latest casualties add to the growing tensions surrounding the Lassia Tuolu-Kendeu conflict, which began on June 15, 2024, after years of peaceful coexistence between the communities were disrupted. [5] The conflict has so far resulted in deaths, destruction of property and deepened tensions within the district. [5] Member of Parliament for Wa West, Peter Lanchene Toobu, called for an immediate end to the violence and a swift, impartial investigation by state security agencies. [5] Mr Toobu expressed concern about the impact of the violence on residents and the district’s development. [5] The incident left many families devastated and threatened the peace and stability of the beloved district. [5] Mr Toobu warned that continued cycles of violence and retaliation were undermining the future of young people and diverting resources that could have been invested in development. [5] Mediation efforts had been making progress until November 23, 2025, when two young men from Bakpaateng were killed near Lassia Tuolu. [5] Tensions escalated further following the death of a prime suspect, Tijjani Abu, while in police custody at the SDA Hospital in Wa on July 25, 2026. [5] Mr Toobu called on the Ghana Police Service and the Attorney-General’s Office to expedite investigations into both the clashes and the custodial death. [5]
