Ukraine War Sees 201 Russian Civilian Deaths from Drone Strikes in One Month
Russia and Ukraine continued mutual drone and missile strikes this week, causing civilian casualties and infrastructure damage on both sides, while diplomatic efforts for a Black Sea ship-strike moratorium and ceasefire calls from Turkey have so far failed to gain traction in the Ukraine war.
Mutual Attacks and Civilian Impact
Russia and Ukraine continued actively attacking each other this week. [1] In Bashkiria drones attacked an industrial zone containing a Wildberries logistics center, causing a fire but no injuries. [1] A Turkish-flagged dry cargo ship was also attacked near Novorossiysk port, with the strike hitting living quarters but causing no injuries; Gemi Trafık attributed the attack to the Ukrainian side. NATO Intercepts Drone Over Latvia
NATO fighter jets shot down a drone that entered Latvian airspace, the second such incident this year, amid growing concerns over Russian-linked drone activity on NATO's eastern flank. [3] On the 1,632nd day of the conflict NATO announced that its fighter jets had downed a drone that entered Latvian airspace near the Russian border. [3] NATO opened an investigation, with spokesperson Allison Hart confirming that two Italian Eurofighter jets were scrambled and one shot down the drone while two Turkish F-16s were also sent. [3] The Baltic states bordering Russia have recorded a growing number of such intrusions and drone falls on their territories. [3] Other eastern-flank NATO countries including Romania and Poland have also experienced repeated airspace incursions. [3] At a meeting on Wednesday NATO allies reaffirmed that Russia bears full responsibility for these airspace violations, which are dangerous and unacceptable. [3]

Ukraine's Air Defence and Winter Energy Crisis
Zelenskyy appealed for Patriot interceptors from Germany, Poland, South Korea, Japan, and Israel while noting near-total destruction of Ukraine's thermal power plants and urging winter preparations including stockpiling firewood and relocating to rural areas. [1] President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed to Germany and Poland to transfer Patriot interceptor missiles to Ukraine, noting that these countries possess such ammunition. Turkish Proposal for Black Sea Moratorium
Turkey proposed a moratorium on strikes against vessels in the Black Sea and plans to supply US weapons to Ukraine despite recent attacks on Turkish ships; Russia rejected the idea as giving Kyiv a respite. [1] Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that Turkey has called on the parties to create a mechanism for declaring a ceasefire, with the proposal already sent to Moscow and Kyiv. Calls for Ceasefire and Humanitarian Concerns
The WHO recorded over 3,000 attacks on Ukrainian health facilities since the invasion began. [3] The World Health Organization has recorded more than 3,000 attacks on health structures in Ukraine since the Russian invasion in 2022. [3] These represent a large share of more than 10,000 attacks recorded in 29 countries and territories since 2018. Russian Military Losses and Long-term US Supply Strain
Russia's daily losses are estimated at 1,370 soldiers, with cumulative totals exceeding 1.46 million personnel since February 2022.
