Ukraine Strikes Kill Paramedic in Russian Double-Tap Attack on Kyiv
Russian strikes across Ukraine have caused civilian and military casualties, including the deaths of a paramedic and volunteer in a double-tap attack on Kyiv, a major blackout in Sumy Oblast, and an explosion at an ammunition depot in Khmelnytskyi that is under investigation for possible sabotage. Ukraine strikes have also targeted logistics sites inside Russia as part of ongoing operations.
Paramedic Killed in Kyiv Double-Tap Strike
A 25-year-old Ukrainian paramedic and artist, Eva "Planochka" Reuter, was killed in a Russian double-tap strike on Kyiv while aiding the injured. [4] A 20-year-old volunteer, Vitalina Yarovenko, also died in the same incident that claimed nine lives total. [4] Eva Reuter held a bachelor's degree from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture and worked in the games industry. [4] She joined the Hospitallers medical battalion in November 2022 and chose to evacuate the wounded despite having the right to remain in the rear. [4] She participated in the "Veterans are different. Victory is one" campaign and was on duty with rescue workers in Kyiv on the night of 31 July-1 August. [4] Vitalina Yarovenko was in the vehicle with Eva Reuter when both were killed. [4] The strike on Kyiv on the night of 31 July-1 August claimed the lives of nine people, including 22-year-old patrol officer Yehor Terekhiv who was helping civilians at the scene. [4]
Ammunition Depot Explosions in Khmelnytskyi
An uncontrolled detonation of ammunition at a military training ground in Khmelnytskyi on 31 July killed at least five service members who remain missing. [3] The detonation began at around 11:55 on 31 July at a military facility on the outskirts of Khmelnytskyi and continued almost until the end of the day. [3] Eight service members were injured in the explosions. [3] Human remains were discovered during search operations and sent for forensic pathology examination and DNA analysis to identify the victims. [3] As of 3 August, five service members remain missing after they were unloading ammunition at a military warehouse when the initial explosion occurred. [3] Investigators are examining both safety violations and possible sabotage. [3] One line of inquiry focuses on breaches of regulations during the transport or unloading of ammunition that may have triggered the initial blast and subsequent chain of detonations. [3] Investigators are also examining the possibility of sabotage aimed at destroying military equipment and ammunition. [3] The State Bureau of Investigation stated that the lives of Ukrainian service members are of the utmost value and will establish all circumstances of the tragedy. [3]
Ukrainian Drone Campaign Hits Russian Warehouses
Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces conducted drone attacks that destroyed 13 of 15 targeted Wildberries warehouses in Russia over 18 days. [2] Commander Robert "Magyar" Brovdi stated that Ukrainian drones attacked 15 logistics facilities belonging to the Russian online retailer Wildberries. [2] Thirteen of the 15 warehouses had been destroyed by fire as a result of the attacks. [2] A further strike on the Krasny Bor logistics hub in Leningrad Oblast occurred on 4 August. [2] Fires broke out in warehouse areas in the settlement of Krasny Bor in Leningrad Oblast and in the city of Chekhov in Moscow Oblast following drone strikes on the night of 3-4 August. [2]
Power Blackout Hits Sumy Oblast
A major emergency blackout struck Sumy Oblast following Russian attacks on energy facilities. [5] Specialised personnel are working to restore power in the region. [5] The blackout also disrupted water supply in parts of Sumy city due to the shutdown of the municipal water utility. [5] On 3 August, as a result of combat operations and Russian strikes on energy facilities, some consumers in Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Sumy, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv and Kherson oblasts were temporarily left without electricity. Missiles Damage Lithuanian Embassy in Kyiv
Two Russian missiles damaged the Lithuanian embassy in Kyiv over the weekend. [1] Lithuania's Foreign Minister stated the strike could have been deliberate. [1] Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said that Vilnius cannot rule out the possibility that Russia deliberately targeted Lithuania’s embassy in Kyiv when two Russian missiles damaged the diplomatic mission.
