Nigeria Police Arrest Cameroonian Human Trafficking Suspects
Police officers arrested 17 Cameroonian nationals in Benue State who were suspected to be involved in human trafficking and clandestine activities. EFCC Convicts Man in N132 Million Money Laundering Case
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission secured the conviction of Onatayo Pelumi for money laundering involving funds totalling about N132 million. [2] The conviction was secured by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the commission. [2] Pelumi was convicted by Justice Osiagor of the Federal High Court, Lagos, on five counts bordering on the retention of proceeds of unlawful activities in bank accounts domiciled with Guaranty Trust Bank and Zenith Bank. [2] The charges alleged that the convict retained various sums of money in the accounts between January 2023 and June 2026, knowing that the funds formed part of the proceeds of unlawful activities. [2] The court sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment, with an option of a N300,000 fine, on count one. [2] On counts two, three, four and five, he was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment on each count, with an option of a N300,000 fine on each count. [2] The terms of imprisonment are to run concurrently. [2] The court also ordered the forfeiture of two properties and N8 million to the Federal Government of Nigeria. [2] The N8 million is domiciled in the convict’s Zenith Bank account. [2] The forfeited properties are half plot of land at No. 23 Michael Ayorinde Street, Abule-Egba, Lagos, and half plot of land at No. 1 Yisa Street, Meiran, Lagos. [2] The court further ordered the convict to undertake seven days of community service in connection with the sentences. [2]
Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested in Delta State
Operatives of the Delta State Police Command arrested a 26-year-old suspected armed robber in Asaba and recovered three firearms, including an AK-47 rifle and ammunition. [5] The arrest occurred during an intelligence-led operation. [5] On October 7, 2026, at about 22:30 hours, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team, acting on credible intelligence in collaboration with local vigilantes, arrested Sunday Nimel, 26, a suspected member of an armed robbery syndicate allegedly responsible for several residential armed robbery operations in Asaba and its environs. [5] During interrogation, the suspect made useful statements that led operatives to a hideout near Okpanam City Gate, where one AK-47 rifle, three rounds of live ammunition, and two locally made cut-to-size guns were recovered. [5] The State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Erale, commended the operatives for the successful operation and reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and the dismantling of criminal networks across the state.
