Gunmen Fire at Tiger Shroff's Car in Mumbai as Bishnoi Gang Claims Responsibility
Gunmen opened fire on Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff's vehicle in Mumbai on Sunday evening, with a group claiming links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang taking responsibility and issuing new threats against Salman Khan. [1]
Attack on Tiger Shroff's Vehicle
The shooting occurred at about 7 p.m. on Sunday near Pushpa Park in Juhu as Shroff was leaving after playing football. [1] [3] A video circulating on social media shows several rounds being fired at the vehicle, with two assailants shooting before fleeing on a motorcycle alongside a third man. [3] One of the shooters can be seen firing repeatedly while the second appears to try to open fire. [3] Seven shots were fired in all at the car. [4] The vehicle was slowly exiting the venue when two of the assailants sprang in front of the car and opened fire repeatedly, with at least one bullet going through the shattered glass of the vehicle. [4] The three assailants, in white shirts, fled in seconds towards SV Road and Vile Parle railway station on a bike kept idling by their accomplice. [4] The incident took place barely 350 metres away from Juhu police station. [4] Mumbai Police personnel reached the spot after receiving news of the incident, cordoned off the area, and called ballistics experts to collect shell casings. [3]
Bishnoi Gang Claims Responsibility
Two men identifying themselves as Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu claimed responsibility for the attack in posts on various social media platforms. [3] They stated in a post in Hindi, accompanied by a voice message, that they had called and explained to Shroff but he did not understand, so they explained to him rather well that whoever in the Mumbai film industry does not abide by what they say or work with Salman Khan are next in line. [3] The message explicitly stated that Pandit and Harman Sandhu took full responsibility for the action taken against the actor. [4] The individuals involved had previously contacted the actor with warnings that were allegedly ignored. [4] The statement issued a broad warning to members of the Mumbai film industry, threatening that anyone who fails to listen to them or continues to work with Salman Khan will be targeted next. [4] Police are verifying the social media post and a voice note. [4] Pandit had earlier claimed responsibility for a shooting outside singer Guru Randhawa’s Delhi gym over an alleged Salman Khan connection. [4]
Injuries and Medical Treatment
Tiger Shroff escaped unhurt but suffered minor abrasions from pieces of shattered glass from the vehicle’s windscreen. [1] [4] His driver, Firdos, sustained a gunshot wound to his left hand. [3] [4] Both were taken to Nanavati Hospital for treatment, where Shroff was later discharged while his driver was admitted as he might require surgery for the gunshot injury. [3] [4] Initial scans showed a foreign body lodged in the driver’s left hand as a result of the bullet injury. [4] Autorickshaw driver Umesh Chavan, 35, was taken to Cooper Hospital after being shot in the chest. [3] He had a bullet entry wound 2 cm below his left nipple and was admitted to the surgery department, with his condition described as stable. [3] [4] The third person injured, identified by police as 35-year-old Umesh Charan, sustained bullet injuries on the right side of his chest and will need immediate surgery. [4]
Police Investigation Underway
Mumbai Police formed 15 teams to search for the assailants. [3] [4] One person was detained in Santacruz in connection with the case, though details about the person's identity and suspected role were not available at the time of publication. [3] Police are reviewing CCTV footage from cameras installed near the scene and examining it to identify the assailants and establish their escape route. [3] [4] The primary reason and motive behind the shooting are unclear, and the probe underway will ascertain that. [3] Juhu police and Mumbai crime branch officers were examining CCTV footage while seeking details from Shroff about any recent threat calls or warnings. [4] Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took a briefing from police commissioner Deven Bharti and sought strict action, and he rang Tiger Shroff and assured him saying, “We are all with you.” [4]
Context of Prior Bishnoi-Linked Incidents
The incident has caused a stir across the film industry, reviving memories of recent attacks on prominent film personalities allegedly linked to the Bishnoi gang. [3] These include the fatal attack on politician Baba Siddique in Bandra and the incidence of firing at Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartment in Bandra Bandstand in 2024. [4] Siddique’s son Zeeshan expressed shock and horror at Sunday’s attack on Tiger Shroff, while NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule echoed his fears over the worsening law and order situation in the state. [4]
What to watch next: Police continue reviewing CCTV footage and ballistics evidence as the 15 teams search for the assailants while verifying the social media claims.
