Armed Man Monitoring Security Arrested at Trump Golf Course Before Fundraiser
Authorities arrested an armed man who was photographing and monitoring security preparations at President Donald Trump's Los Angeles-area golf course two days before a scheduled Republican National Committee fundraiser there.
Arrest at Trump Golf Course
Federal agents spotted an armed California man photographing security preparations at President Donald Trump's Los Angeles-area golf club two days before a scheduled Republican National Committee fundraiser there. [3] The arrest took place on Sunday afternoon at the Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes. [4] Plainclothes federal agents reported a suspicious person to local authorities during the middle of the day, around 1530 ET. [4] When police confronted the man, they discovered that he was being sought in connection to a robbery by the El Segundo Police Department, about 15 miles north of Rancho Palos Verdes. [4] Authorities searched him and found he was carrying a 16-round magazine containing hollow point ammunition. [4] In his vehicle, which was parked at the golf course, they found a loaded pistol, along with a loaded magazine containing hollow-point ammunition. [4] The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Jeanine John Taele, 38, was taking photos and video and had a 16-round magazine with ammunition in his pocket. [1] Authorities recovered a loaded pistol in his car. [1] According to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, he was observed walking throughout the golf course grounds taking photographs and videos and appearing to monitor security-planning activities. Search of Suspect's Home
Law enforcement searched his home in the nearby city of Downey on Monday and found a plethora of firearms, magazines and ammunition, body armor and notebooks with concerning statements. [1] The suspect's home in Downey was raided on Monday by agents from the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force and the LA County Sheriff's Department Major Crimes Bureau. [4] The sheriff's department said his home was searched due to the potential security implications surrounding the incident. [4] Inside his home, they found an illegally modified AR platform rifle, a .45 pistol, body armour, high-capacity magazines, a plethora of bullets for pistols and rifles and multiple notebooks containing concerning statements. Charges and Court Appearance
Taele was charged with several felonies including second-degree robbery, receiving a large-capacity magazine and possession of a short-barreled rifle or shotgun. [1] He was also charged with carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle, a misdemeanor. [1] Taele is being held on charges of carrying a concealed firearm and possession of armour-piercing/prohibited ammunition. [4] He pleaded not guilty to all the charges Monday and was ordered to stay away from the golf course and not possess weapons. [1] His bail was set at $250,000. [1] It wasn’t clear if he had an attorney, and family members could not immediately be reached for comment. [1]

The investigation is continuing, with assistance from the US Secret Service, and officials say more charges may be filed later. The sheriff’s department announced the arrest as Trump was preparing to arrive for a fundraising dinner for the Republican National Committee at the Trump National Golf Course in the suburb of Rancho Palos Verdes just south of Los Angeles. [1] Trump is currently visiting California to attend a Republican party fundraising dinner at the course on Tuesday. [4] According to the White House, Trump was due to give a speech critical of California Governor Gavin Newsom, who is widely considered to be planning a run for the presidency in the 2028 election, after Trump's second term ends. [4] On Wednesday, Trump is travelling to Las Vegas to deliver a speech at a casino. [4] The visits come as campaign activity ramps up ahead of the mid-term elections in November, when the balance of power in Congress is up for grabs.
