35-year-old arrested in Cyprus with 1.2kg of intercepted methamphetamine
Cyprus Methamphetamine Interception
A 35-year-old man was arrested in Cyprus after police intercepted a postal package containing approximately 1.2kg of methamphetamine during an operation in the Larnaca and Limassol districts. [1] Officers located the package at Larnaca airport on October 21 after it arrived from abroad, working in coordination with the Customs Department. [1] The methamphetamine had a total gross weight of 1kg and 197g. [1] At around 4pm on Friday, the suspect presented himself as the recipient when the package was delivered to him in the Larnaca and Limassol districts. [1] He was taken into custody immediately following the delivery. [1]
International Cooperation and Operation
The arrest followed cooperation between the Directorate for Combating Organised Crime and authorities in another European country, who alerted Cypriot officials to a package containing drugs being sent to Cyprus. [1] Working with the Customs Department, officers located the package at Larnaca airport on October 21. [1] The joint effort allowed the package to be tracked and delivered under controlled conditions to the individual who claimed it. [1] Police stated that the tip from the other European country initiated the operation that led to the Friday arrest. [1]
Charges and Investigation
The suspect is being investigated for importing and possessing drugs, possession with intent to supply, and money laundering. [1] The case is being investigated by the Directorate for Combating Organised Crime and the Limassol Drug Law Enforcement Unit. [1] Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the importation of the methamphetamine package. [1]
Daylight Murder in India
In a separate incident, a video of the event shows a man allegedly running over his friend with a car before repeatedly bludgeoning him with a stick and an iron rod in broad daylight on a busy road in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. [4] The victim, Devesh alias Bunty Dixit, 36, died on the spot, while the accused, Pawan Parashar, 22, later drove to the Cidco police station and surrendered. [4] Preliminary investigation revealed that Dixit was returning home after a gym session when Parashar began pursuing him in a car. [4] The chase ended near Mangesh Gas Agency in the N-7 area of Cidco, where Parashar rammed Dixit’s two-wheeler from behind, throwing him onto the road. [4] The impact was so forceful that the two-wheeler was flung nearly 150 feet away. [4] Parashar then took a U-turn, drove back to the injured man, got out of the car and repeatedly struck Dixit on the head with a stick and an iron rod. [4] The killing triggered panic in the locality, with passersby and shopkeepers gathering at the scene. [4] Senior police officers, including deputy commissioner of police (Zone II) Ratnakar Navale, visited the spot. [4]
Background of the Indian Killing
Police suspect that a fallout between the two men led to the killing. [4] The accused, after surrendering before the police, claimed that he and the victim used to work as bouncers for different bars and that he was upset due to their friendship turning into a rivalry. [4] Police teams were cross-verifying the accused’s version and probing the exact motive behind the murder. [4] Investigators were questioning Parashar to establish the complete sequence of events and ascertain the circumstances that led to the killing. [4]
What to watch next: Authorities in Cyprus will continue the probe into the methamphetamine importation and related charges through the Directorate for Combating Organised Crime and the Limassol Drug Law Enforcement Unit, while Indian police in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar cross-verify statements and examine the rivalry that preceded the daylight attack.
