Ukraine War Sees 1,450 Russian Soldiers Lost in One Day as Drone Strikes Hit Siberia
The Ukraine war continued with heavy losses on the Russian side and intensified long-range strikes by both forces, as Ukraine's General Staff reported 1,450 Russian soldiers lost over the past day.
Russian Personnel Losses
Russia has lost 1,450 soldiers killed and wounded over the past day, bringing its total number of personnel losses to 1,437,550. [1] The total combat losses of the Russian forces between 24 February 2022 and 25 July 2026 are estimated to be approximately 1,437,550 military personnel, 12,208 tanks, 25,011 armoured combat vehicles, 46,724 artillery systems, 1,968 multiple-launch rocket systems, 1,518 air defence systems, 439 fixed-wing aircraft, 354 helicopters, 2,023 ground robotic systems, 426,836 operational-tactical UAVs, 4,943 cruise missiles, 34 ships/boats, 2 submarines, 125,358 vehicles and fuel tankers, and 4,462 special vehicles and other equipment. Ukrainian Long-Range Strikes on Russian Targets
A refinery of petrol in the city of Tyumen in Siberia, nearly 2,000 km from Ukraine, caught fire after a drone attack. [2] Residents of Tyumen reported at least two explosions and the activation of air defence systems, with smoke rising above the refinery. [2] The refinery in Tyumen is the only large refinery in the Ural Federal District and has a capacity of about 8 million tonnes of crude oil per year. [2] In a long-range attack, vessels used to transport military material to Iran as well as a warship were struck in the Caspian Sea. [2] A drone fell on a logistics warehouse of Wildberries in Ekaterinburg, where an fire broke out in a parking area of 300 square metres. Russian Attacks on Ukrainian Cities and Infrastructure
Russian forces attacked the ports of Izmail, Odessa and Mykolaiv at dawn, striking port infrastructure intended for the loading and storage of fuel and lubricants as well as a military equipment depot in Izmail. [2] A bulk carrier delivering goods for the supply of the Ukrainian armed forces was hit in Mykolaiv, and port infrastructure for unloading and storage of military goods was struck in Odessa. [2] A person was killed and two others were seriously wounded in a Russian attack on Kherson that struck the Centre and Korabelnyi districts. [2] During the night, Russian forces launched a new attack on Sloviansk, wounding at least 15 people including a 15-year-old boy and damaging 11 residential buildings. [2] Three people were killed in Sloviansk and three in Sumy due to Russian raids, with more than ten residential buildings damaged in Sloviansk and a post office in Sumy hit by a drone attack that killed two men. [2] A drone struck a residential high-rise in Kharkiv, a clothing market in Zaporizhzhia caught fire, and drone terrorism against the population continued in Kherson and the Kherson region. [2] The regions of Poltava, Chernihiv, Odessa, Mykolaiv and Dnipro were also hit. [2] In the night, Russia used two missiles and nearly 160 drones, leaving ten people injured across the country from the evening attacks. Zelenskyy on Ceasefire and Trump
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that if it is possible to stop the war with a ceasefire tomorrow, it is better than to fight 10-20 years for victory and lose people. [3] Zelenskyy believes that Donald Trump understands that Russia is not interested in ending the war, while Ukraine wants to stop the war and wants peace. [4] Zelenskyy added that Ukraine wants victory but focuses first of all on human lives, and that a ceasefire is better. [4] Zelenskyy said the turning point in his relationship with Trump was a brief personal meeting at St Peter's Basilica in Rome in April 2025, and that Trump has begun to trust him. Kremlin Response to Trump Proposals
Russia believes President Donald Trump is sincere in his efforts to end the Ukraine war and will wait for Washington to put forward new proposals, even though the U.S. is continuing to provide weapons to Kyiv. [5]
Additional Incidents
A second drone violated Romanian national airspace in as many days and was shot down by an F-16 pilot in an uninhabited area near the border with Ukraine. [2] The first drone, determined by Romanian prosecutors to be of Russian origin, was shot down on Friday. [2]
