National Weather Service Issues Severe Thunderstorm Warnings Across Minnesota, Dakotas and Indiana
The National Weather Service has issued multiple severe thunderstorm warnings across parts of Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota and Indiana, while flash flooding from heavy rain affects central Indiana.
Active Severe Thunderstorm Warnings in the Upper Midwest
The National Weather Service in Aberdeen has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Traverse County in west central Minnesota and Big Stone County in west central Minnesota. [1] The same warning covers Deuel County in northeastern South Dakota, Roberts County in northeastern South Dakota, eastern Day County in northeastern South Dakota, eastern Marshall County in northeastern South Dakota, Hamlin County in northeastern South Dakota, Grant County in northeastern South Dakota and Codington County in northeastern South Dakota. The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities has issued a separate Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Lac qui Parle County in west central Minnesota and northwestern Yellow Medicine County in west central Minnesota. [2] This warning remains in effect until 1:30 a.m. CDT. [2] At 12:45 a.m. CDT a severe thunderstorm was located 8 miles west of Canby, or 39 miles southwest of Montevideo, moving northeast at 65 mph. North Dakota Thunderstorms on the Move

At 12:41 a.m. CDT severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Cooperstown to near Bald Hill Dam, moving northeast at 35 mph. [4] The warning covers Barnes County, North Dakota. [4] Hazards include 60 mph wind gusts and penny-size hail. [4] Locations impacted include Hope, Hannaford, Dazey, Luverne, Sibley, Walum and Pillsbury. [4]
Flash Flooding Strikes Central Indiana
The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a Flash Flood Warning for northeastern Bartholomew County in central Indiana, Decatur County in central Indiana and southeastern Shelby County in central Indiana. [3] The warning remains in effect until 5:00 a.m. EDT. [3] At 1:45 a.m. EDT Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. [3] Up to 3.5 inches of rain have fallen. [3] The expected rainfall rate is 1.5 inches in 1 hour. [3]
Hazards and Immediate Impacts
The warnings describe expected damage to roofs, siding and trees from 60 mph wind gusts. [2] [4] Small hail is noted in one Minnesota warning while penny-size hail is specified for the North Dakota storm.
